Kahayag Dance Company Philippines, Inc. is a community based performing group. “Kahayag” is a Visayan word which means light or brightness.
Kahayag Dance Company (KDC) is a community-based dance group in Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental. Since its establishment in 2004, KDC has been actively involved in carrying out various artistic programs that have contributed to the development of the rich dance tradition in the Philippines. The group has produced excellent dance performances that promoted Philippine traditional dances to various audiences within the country and abroad. It has produced body of works that premiered in local and international dance events such as the CCP Sari-Saring Sayaw, Sama-Samang Galaw, CCP Pasinaya Festival, 10th International Youth Dance Festival (China), 9th Nanning International Folk Song Arts Festival (China), ASEAN+3 Joint Cultural Performances (Cambodia), and the 2016 NanYing International Folklore Festival (Taiwan), among others.
Kahayag’s exemplary performance and strong commitment to cultural leadership and artistic excellence was evident when it gave honor to the country as the Grand Prize Winner at the 2015 World Cultural Dance Festival in South Korea. This earned them a Resolution of Recognition from the City Government of Dumaguete while the Province of Negros Oriental proclaimed them as a Resident Artistic Group of Negros Oriental and awarded them the Sidlak NegOrense Award.
In addition, KDC is fully committed to provide community service through outreach programs such as dance workshops and dance appreciation specifically on the development of the artistic skills of the youth in the locality.
The company is now under Mr. Engel Boen S. Zerna as Artistic Director.
