Thank you for your interest in Pointe of JOY! We are an exquisite group of youngsters and young-at-heart who do Creative Movement, Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Pointe, Lyrical, Hip Hop, Liturgical, Ballroom and Yoga!
Unlike any other school in Eastern Kentucky, we offer a wide variety of arts and fitness for all ages and our focus is Performance - in the purest form.
Class Descriptions:
Mommy and Me
Ages 2-3. No previous training necessary. Smiles come first and learning is inevitable. In this class our emphasis is on creative movement and dancers graduate to independence as they are ready.
Preballet and Tiny Tappers
Ages 4-5*. Sure to steal any show and every heart, tiny dancers refine motor skills as well as social skills while they playfully learn a stellar dance foundation.
Ballet
Ages 6-8*. Basic ballet technique with little or no prior training. Dancers improve and advance in core strength, port de bra, and turnout as classes begin with barre, move to center & across the floor variations with musicality. Two classes/wk recommend.
Pre-Pointe
Ages 9+. Ballet technique with 2-3 years prior training* or placement from instructor. This class is for the aspiring ballet star, preparing the body and mind for the exhilaration and discipline of dancing en pointe. 2 classes/wk required, 3+ recommended.
Pointe
Ages 12+. Intermediate with 3-4 years prior training*. For the well trained and passionate dancer who applies core strength, impeccable alignment, unwavering turnout and ready for the challenging work of a pointe dancer. Two classes/week required, minimum of 3+ highly recommended.
Advanced Pointe
Ages 13+. 4-5 years prior training*. Advanced. For the serious pointe dancer who is comfortable on her toes and has mastered each challenge on her way to stardom with alignment, technique, discipline and passion. Two classes/week required. Three - - six classes/week recommended.
Tap and Jazz
Ages 6-8. Intermediate with 2+ years prior training. Smooth like a cat and loud like a lion this class will turn heads as dancers continue growing from the perfect foundation of the distinct styles of tap and jazz.
Lyrical and Jazz
Ages 9-up. Intermediate - Advanced. Express the soul from the famous styles of Fossie to today's most popular movements and songs, we know you can dance!
A minimum of two classes/week highly recommended.
Hip Hop, Rhythm, and Tap
Ages 9-up. Intermediate - Advanced. Get your groove on and make some noise! This class is full of heart pounding hip hop routines using tap and rhythm dance that will get you ready for the stage and street.
Liturgical
Ages 9-up. This performance based class is often the body, voice, and soul of PoJ as dancers perform monthly, inspiring and changing hearts through high energy contemporary worship dance.
Yoga
Ages 9-up or accompanied by adult. Bring 'union' to your body, mind, and soul in this non-aerobic class for all ages and fitness levels. Grow and develop in strength, flexibility, breathing, and concentration. A must for all and highly recommended for all JOYHouse dancers. Men welcome. Disabilities and restrictions welcome.
Ballroom
Ages 9 and up. Beg./Int.with no prior training necessary. Mom, dad, brother, sister, neighbor (you may call it a "family") can all enjoy the many styles and joys of Latin, rhythm, smooth and social dancing. Family that dance together...just have more fun!
