The gym that once housed the Basics Superstars and X-Treme Tyme All-Stars has gone through a number of changes but it has found its home under Teirria Duffy and Joey Takacs with Universe Athletics!




Introducing The New..... UNIVERSE ATHLETICS!

Under the ownership of these Cheer Enthusiasts, Universe Athletics will be a force to be reckoned with! There's a passion within this staff visible to all.

Our drive will impress all who become involved. We are prepared and excited to build multiple teams for all levels and age groups!

Teirria Duffy, (Co-Owner) began her dance and acrobat training at six months of age, under the instruction of her mother, Brenda Tennant-Duffy. She started competitive cheering at the young age of five and has competed and won multiple championships across the country. She has had the honor of competing with California All-Stars, Basics Superstars, and FCA Diamonds. Teirria is also a 3x Regional, and 2x State Champion of Brooke High School. She is currently a full-time student at West Liberty University, working to earn a degree in Secondary Math Education. Teirria, (known to many as "Tee") strives to exercise her passion for learning and inspiration in each aspect of her life.

Joey "Will" Takacs, (Co-Owner) began cheering in 2003 for the Basics Superstars of Wellsburg, WV. He was with that team for five years, racking up numerous national awards. He then moved onto the Pittsburgh Superstars Open Black Team where he remained for the following three years. With Open Black, he was able to compete at the World Cheerleading Championships all three years. Joey is currently a choreographer for a number of high school teams throughout the Ohio Valley, as well as a coach for his alma mater, Toronto High School. He is USASF Tumbling and Stunting certified for Levels 1-5.

Cara Gaich, (Coach) started her tumbling training at Flying Eagles at the age of five. She continued on to Casey's Sisters where she took both dance and tumbling classes for eight years. At age nine, she began training at Basics Gymnastics, doing both tumbling and competitive all-star cheering. She was on their "Pee-Wee" team for three years, then moved up onto the junior squad, and finally the senior team. Cara competed and won with Basics at multiple national competitions and competed at the Cheerleading Worlds. She cheered for two years at St. Joseph the Worker Middle School. She was a varsity cheerleader at Brooke High School for four years and won four Regional, four State, and three OVAC titles. She studied at West Virginia University where she graduated with a bachelors degree in multidisciplinary studies and obtained her associates degree in nursing from WVNCC.

Kelsie Felton, (Coach) started her cheerleading career at five years old with tumbling classes. Throughout her childhood she cheered for both Follansbee City League and Follansbee Middle School. She also participated in all-star competitive cheer with Basics Superstars, competing at the leading World Championship. She also competed on Pittsburgh Superstars. She cheered on Brooke High School's varsity team where she was awarded three Regional, one runner-up, and two State titles. She is currently assistant cheerleading coach at Brooke High School. Kelsie has a regents bachelor degree concentration in education from West Liberty University and is currently enrolled in their masters program, emphasis in community education and leadership.
