In the mid 19th century, Lam Neten of Gasa sends young Tozey Singye to serve under the Desi in Punakha Dzong. Singye serves as an ordinary attendant but because of his dedication and commitment, he soon rises to the post of Darpen, chief of attendants and then to Zimnang, in-charge of the Desi’s treasury.

Singye sees Galem, a daughter of local landlord, at the open market near Punakha Dzong and instantly falls in love.

Because of his extra ordinary talent, Singye is sent to Lhasa in Tiber for trade.
