Shiatsu in Edinburgh and beyond.

I'm based in Santosa, 21 Albert Street, Leith. I moved to Edinburgh from Holy Isle retreat centre over on the West Coast of Scotland a few years ago.
A little bit about shiatsu: A Japanese therapy for wellbeing

Shiatsu massage is a unique healing art of Japanese origin and can be applied to many different conditions, both physical and emotional. This is due to its flexible nature, based on listening to the body in the present moment, through movement and stillness. It is experienced fully clothed as a whole body massage, and is traditionally performed on a futon,
though it can also be experienced on a massage table or chair. It involves palm and finger pressure, rotations, stretches and gentle holding. Shiatsu massage acts to promote relaxation, structural alignment, balance and increased self-‐awareness. It works on the same pressure points
used in acupuncture, and it has sometimes been described as “acupuncture without needles”.

A little bit about me:

I am a Shiatsu practitioner based in Edinburgh interested in working 1:1 with clients, developing links with community organisations, and working in a retreat setting, alongside workshop leaders complimenting their mind body groupwork.
Prior to moving to Edinburgh, I lived as a full time volunteer on Holy Isle for four years. This is where I was living when I completed my training (Glasgow School of Shiatsu). I began to offer treatments to guests who came to the island seeking retreat, relaxation, and exploration of themselves and their body/mind. I have a Post Graduate Certificate in Emotional Education (Derby University/Atlow Mill Centre for Emotional Education)
I have also studied Mindfulness and the foundation level of Mindfulness teacher training with Rob Nairn and the Mindfulness Assoc for over four years.

Shiatsu and Mindfulness:

Both Zen Shiatsu and Mindfulness are about becoming aware of what is happening in the present moment.

While working on Holy Isle, I gave Shiatsu treatments to many people who were currently practicing some mindfulness and meditation training of their own. I have found it’s an excellent way of supporting the mind to get in touch with the body’s experience of the present moment.

If you have been practicing some mindfulness techniques of your own, either at home or with people like the Mindfulness Assoc, let me know, and I will give you a £5 discount off your introductory treatment. Many people have found that regular sessions of body work supports their own mindfulness practice and allows the mind to settle and the body to relax. Try it for yourself and see!
