Shiatsu is a Japanese body therapy. "Shi" means finger and "Atsu" means pressure. It is based on Chinese medicine which teaches that the body has a vital energy that circulates through channels and will lead vitality to the organs. While acupuncture "works" this energy with the needles, shiatsu does it through the hands.
Shiatsu works with pressure and stretching. I often tell my patients that I'm going to give them a few "squeezes and a few stretches!"
