The Altered Native was born in 1997 by the creative mind of its father, Shayne MacDonald. When the first shop opened in Orangeville in 1997, it resembled Shayne's parents' basement in appearance and in thought: multitudes of pipes and bongs, rock shirts and clothing, flags and posters adorning the walls. What seemed to be a far-fetched idea for a small town turned out to be a successful and ever-changing business.
