It all began in the basement of my childhood home outside of Boston, Massachusetts where my mom, Martha, organized an after school “Art Club” program. There we did everything from painting giant under the sea themed murals on the walls and learning to quilt, to going on nature walks to find items to incorporate into fabric design and papermaking projects. Making art with my mom was one of the highlights of my young childhood. As I grew older I fell in love with the art of photography, sneaking into the darkroom for extra time during lunches in high school. I thought about going to school for photography, but was concerned that I would end up losing my passion if I made a career out of it. Instead of attending a photography school, I attended Alfred University in pursuit of an education in psychology.
Since I graduated from college I have tried out different careers in search of my niche. I have spent the past five years working with at-risk, disadvantaged youth and their families. Most notably I worked for the YWCA of Lowell, Massachusetts where I facilitated a program called Girls Going Green. In that program, the girls learned job preparedness and other life skills while engaging the community in workshops around the idea of DIY cosmetics and informing others about the toxins that exist in the store-bought products. I loved the work I did with the Girls Going Green teens, but I got the adventure bug and took off for the Pacific Northwest. As I began a career in child welfare I missed the work I did connecting with my community and working so closely with the teens in my program back east. I found myself frequently wondering where it was that I wanted to go in life, but didn’t act upon any of my ideas. Due to some unforeseen circumstances, I was forced to re-examine what it was I wanted to do with my life more critically.
I have since left my job at child welfare, and have decided I want to merge my desire to connect with and make a difference in my community with my desire to create. What has come out of that is EB Simply Naturals. I am working on developing an all-natural, BS free product line to share with all of you beautiful people. Most notably is my “Hope Soap” product that will raise funds for different organizations, as well as awareness for those organizations through story telling. Additionally, I hope to be able to build a community around my brand that values self-love, empowerment, and living fully.
I look forward to sharing this new adventure with you all as I develop my passions. I hope to make a difference in my life, your life, and larger community that we are all a part of. I am sure there will be a fair share of bumps and bruises, as well as smiles and laughter, but such is life.
