OVERVIEW NEW SWIM AND SURVIVE PROGRAM

Swim and Survive Wonder - Overview
Wonder is the water familiarisation component of the Swim and Survive program, designed specifically for children aged 6 to 36 months.
Wonder is a child-centred program which is taught with parent or carer and child together in the water. Parents are an integral part of their child's aquatic education by providing guidance and support through activities that provide for the development of water familiarisation, exploration and water safety skills.
Wonder uses songs, games and activities to teach children a variety of skills including entries, floating, breathing and movement.
Wonder has 3 awards that are arranged by age groups. Within each age group are two stages which allow for a stepping stone of progression, keeping the program challenging and rewarding.

Swim and Survive Courage - Overview
Courage is the Water Confidence component of the Swim and Survive program, and is designed for children aged 3 to 5 years.
Courage is fundamental to the development of basic foundation skills in swimming, survival and water safety, as is a positive attitude towards learning these essential skills.
Swim and Survive Courage guides children through fun and safe activities, gradually building upon their breathing, floating and movement skills; supporting and encouraging independence. The Courage program progresses from initial parental participation to children developing trust and learning through interacting independently with the instructor.
Courage has 5 awards for children to progress through as they build confidence and develop new skills.

Swim and Survive Active - Overview
Active is the Swimming and Water Safety component of the Swim and Survive program, and is designed for children aged 5 - 14 years. This component of Swim and Survive has been around for over 30 years, with almost 15 million Australians gaining a Swim and Survive award since its inception.
Active is used to emphasise that the skills learnt in the program not only save lives, but provide a foundation for participation in a range of aquatic recreation, fitness and sporting activities.
Swim and Survive Active is a broad and balanced program teaching a range of skills and knowledge to develop swimming, water safety, survival and basic rescue skills. With a vibrant look, and an increased focus on stroke development, Active encourages children to have a healthy respect for the aquatic environment.
Active has 3 developing awards and 7 core awards to progress through. The initial awards focus on development of foundation skills with the higher awards building on endurance.

• Resuscitation and Emergency Care
• Aquatic Exercise
• Personal Survival and Lifesaving Skills
This is a program to help you to learn the essential lifesaving skills that could one day save your family members, friends or your life.

What is Pool Lifesaving?
Royal Life Saving has an established sport participation pathway that provides regular opportunities for lifesavers from community level to elite.
The sport of pool lifesaving tests a lifesaver’s skills in rescue, accident prevention and emergency care.
A key activity is the ‘Simulated Emergency’ which pits an individual or team of lifesavers against a staged emergency. Variations of this activity are used in all Royal Life Saving Programs.
Pool Lifesaving provides an opportunity to learn or refresh your resuscitation and rescue skills.

The central component of the Bronze program is the Bronze Medallion which has been operating for over 100 years with many Australians undertaking the program since commencement. The Bronze Medallion is considered the pinnacle of the awards in the community.
Lifesaving skills learnt and developed through the program are highly regarded in the community and may even lead to or enhance the chances of starting a career.
There are 6 awards within the Bronze and Rescue strands building on the National Swimming and Water Safety Framework
Dry Rescue, Wade Rescue, Accompanied Rescue, Bronze Star, Bronze Medallion & Bronze Cross
The program focuses on developing the participants' survival and rescue skills enabling them to make the right survival decisions that may help them or others survive and aquatic emergency.
Participants learn a range of rescue methods and personal survival skills in preparation for challenging rescues of increased risk. They learn to respond to resuscitation and emergency care situations involving conscious and unconscious casualties. Participants will develop stroke efficiency and endurance. Using the knowledge and skills learnt in the program, judgement will be tested in a initiative scenario.

CPR in a Box - NEW OPTION: Resuscitation Training
CPR in a Box is a new initiative by the RLS NSW to assist those in obtaining their accreditation, without attending 2 hours or more of face to face training but rather a 15 minute assessment session. The majority of your learning is completed at home or at work!
How does it work?
1.Order CPR in a Box
2.Nominate an assessment date
3.Watch the DVD and practice on your manikin
Keep practicing as many times as you need until you're ready for your assessment.
4.Attend the nominated Assessment Workshop, bringing your CPR in a Box with all its contents - the Certificate is included in the Box and must be presented at workshop to be endorsed.
5.If deemed competent in the session - you have 12 months validity on your Resuscitation Training.
6.Keep your manikin to practice throughout the 12 months and bring it back in another 12 months for assessment (fee will apply).

CPR in a Box allows the candidate to practice resuscitation, with the use of your own manikin and an instructional DVD that guides you through the stages of Resuscitation. A great, easy and flexible learning solution, delivered in line with Australian Resuscitation Council guidelines.

Certificate: Resuscitation Certificate with 12 months validity.

Who has taken on CPR in a Box? AustSwim Teachers, Gym Instructors, School Teachers, Sports Coaches, Mums and Dads, Grandparents and many more - EVERYONE CAN BE A LIFESAVER!
