Welcome to Sail Nelson's FB page! My name is Penny and I am a Sail Canada (CYA) cruising instructor who recently relocated to Nelson BC. I want to share my passion for sailing with new and existing water enthusiasts to help make Kootenay Lake a safe and fun place for all to enjoy.


After 15 years of experience with Sail Canada I proudly achieved the standard of Advanced Cruising Instructor. I’ve taught on the Great Lakes and at the Vancouver Yacht Club which included: theory, tactics, boat maintenance, navigation, ropework, and among many other things, Live Aboard Cruising.


I am offering theory courses through Selkirk College, where I currently work. My students will benefit from theory courses offered throughout the winter and I am very excited to introduce afloat courses on Kootenay Lake this summer!


I have an equal passion for teaching and sailing which you can harness for personalized teaching on your boat. Don’t have a boat? I have a San Juan 24 where people of all levels can discover the pure, natural exhilaration of sailing.
