Liz Douglas, owner of the Savage Mane Salon and Day Spa, Inc. had a vision in 1987 and that vision continues today as her business thrives downtown. The historic brick building located at 209 E. Hughitt, was the former “Coach Light Bar” and was transformed into an upscale Salon and Day Spa. Staying true to historic roots, it maintains the original façade, terrazzo tile and exposed brick. In 1996, the “Savage Mane” introduced Aveda to the area, and in 2001 become an Aveda Day Spa. The staff is Aveda trained and continuously brings the most current designs and products to their clients. The salon supports continuing education and is affiliated with “The Institute of Natural Therapy” at Hancock, MI which provides state licensed massage training. More than just a hair salon, the “Savage Mane’s” talented staff offers a full spa experience ranging from facials including plant peels, botanical skin resurfacing, dual exfoliation treatments, pedicures which incorporates hot basalt stones and stress wraps, manicures, massages therapy to aromatherapy all in private treatment rooms. Specializing in large wedding parties, all services are available to make the day stress free as our motto is “Calm Mind Calm Skin”. Both men and women benefit from the entire range of services and schedule multiple pampering treatments. Spa parties for small groups are available and the staff will tailor services as requested. The Spa carries a full line of Aveda products and features a cosmetic counter with staff knowledgeable in the art of cosmetic application. The Spa offers gift certificates and personalized gift baskets for all special occasions.
Liz Douglas’ vision carries over to community involvement as she recognizes the importance of a vibrant downtown. The Savage Mane staff supports and participants in: Downtown Beautification Projects, Out to Lunch, Downtown Christmas Walk, Girls Night Out, Gal-a- rama and Harvest on Hughitt. Liz was the originator of Bras for a Cause. She is pleased to be part of the downtown businesses and proud that three generations of Iron Mountain and surrounding area of families still enjoy all that the Savage Mane has to offer. Liz credits the phenomenal success of the “Savage Mane” to her dedicated hard working staff.
