Awakenings Mind-body Education Opportunities:

Qigong (Chi Kung) is an ancient Chinese health care system that integrates physical postures, breathing techniques and mental focus. The word Qigong means cultivating energy. It is a system practiced for health maintenance, healing and increasing vitality. Practices vary from the soft internal styles such as Tai Chi; to the external, vigorous styles such as Kung Fu. The slow gentle movements of most Qigong forms can be easily adapted, even for the physically challenged and can be practiced by all age groups. Whether you are an athlete or CEO looking to maximize performance or someone interested cultivating health and energy, qigong could be perfect for you. Basic and Continuing Meditation:
These classes and workshops are designed to guide you on the path of cultivating your own classic meditation practice. Multiple techniques are taught as well as how to maximize the benefits of meditation into your life, taking your practice “off the cushion” so to speak. Particular focus is paid to training the mind, becoming more present, and cultivating a practice that allows for the opportunity to experience the deeper benefits of meditation.

De-stress and Renew:
These sessions draw upon the well researched tools of mindfulness, breathing, and relaxation techniques to manage stress and appreciate the richness your present life has to offer. This program guides participants in cultivating the ability to respond rather than react to stressors, gain perspective and find more enjoyment in life, and develop appreciation and acceptance of yourself and your life in this moment.

Compassion Practice:
This traditional and popular practice cultivates the ability to respond to self and others from a place of compassion and loving kindness. This disengages patterns of negative reaction, creates clarity, and cultivates the ability to connect with self and others from a sense of shared humanity rather than judgment and the dynamic of personal loss-gain. This is empowers us to focus on what we are really here to do and be in our lives rather than getting caught on the wheel of right and wrong, victim and blame. In addition, the practice helps us to grow the capacity of our heart to be open in the midst of the suffering in the world and to apply a sense of loving kindness rather than shutting down. In this way, compassion can be likened to “love with her work boots on.”

Cultivating Inner Awareness through Art:
A process to connect to the source of your creative expression and communicate with your own inner wisdom, spiritual self, and intuitive knowingness. Includes tools to facilitate healing, connect with your own insight, clarity for your life path, and connect to your true authentic self.
The process uses images, simple drawings that anyone can do, to move beyond thought and words to connect with your own inner language of imagery and personal insight.
Exploring as a group creates the opportunity for support, insight and learning from each other.
Is offered as a 6 week class, full day workshop, or individual instruction.

Retreats:
Half day, full day and weekend retreats are offered periodically.
Private retreats are also available. Tailored to your needs and interests.
Options include meditation, mindfulness, and art and spirituality.
Melissa partners with other professionals to include art, yoga, and outdoor recreation.

Therapeutic Massage:
Specializing in women's health, Melissa offers a deeply relaxing and physically therapeutic massage that integrates the concepts of reflexology, pressure points, and structural realignment. Every session is individually tailored according to your needs and intention.

Integrated Bodywork:
These sessions are a unique seamless blend of massage and an energy tune-up according to your individual needs and intention. Restrictions are released in the physical body to allow joints to feel better, increase flexibility, improve circulation, release pain, and relax muscles. At the same time the elements of Energy Therapies provide for a complete treatment and provide an opportunity to clear the mind, center the emotional self, and if you wish, to deepen your connection with your spiritual self. In addition to the benefits of massage, clients report an overall feeling of wellness, balance and centeredness.

Melissa Middleton, MS, LMT
is owner and practitioner of Awakenings LLC, which offers mind-body therapies and instruction since 2007. She brings her experience from many years of meditation practice, research and training, including the Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction program, Medical and Spiritual Qigong Instructor Certification from the Healing Tao USA and Meditation instructor certification through Shambhava School of Yoga and Meditation. She is also a licensed massage therapist, energy- healing therapist, has completed training in Yoga Calm, and is actively training in Qigong (Chi Kung) with several teachers.
