Our goal is to provide a fun, educational dance experience. Students will learn the disciplined art of dance and movement in a structured classroom setting.

A Studio History

DuHadway Dance Dimensions began as Linda Lee Dance Studio. Linda Lee Abbott was the owner of the studio. She started teaching dance lessons in the living room of the house at 713 Third Ave. when she was 18 years old. The holes from the dance barres are still in the hard wood floors in our living room. In the 1960’s, two dance studios, one on top of the other, were added onto the back of the house. It was used as the main studio space for over 40 years.

Jillian began teaching for Linda Lee when she was a junior in college at CMU in 1989. She taught for two years and left the studio to finish her teaching degree. Before leaving she talked with Linda Lee about purchasing the studio after she and Rob were married. At that time, the studio was promised to another buyer.

In the spring, before Rob and Jillian were married, Jillian received a letter from Linda Lee. The letter told them that the studio was still available. Jillian literally fell down on her parents kitchen floor. She still keeps that letter, that came in a pretty purple envelope, in a drawer in their home.

Summer 1992 was very exciting as Jillian graduated from college, Rob and Jillian were married in August and moved into the house/studio one week later. The studio opened its doors in September with about 120 students. Linda Lee stayed on and worked hand in hand with Rob and Jillian for three years as they struggled to learn and grow to keep the business going.

An opportunity presented itself in 1994. A dance and gymnastics studio in Ithaca became available and the DuHadway’s saw it as a way to grow their business and serve more young dancers in Central Michigan. A relationship with Miss Barb began in 1994 when Rob and Jillian purchased the Ithaca studio. Barb Lowe was on the staff with the previous owner so we “inherited” her. DDD is truly blessed to still have her on staff today.

Rob took over running a gym with uneven bars, vaulting horse, Olympic size balance beam and floor area while Jillian kept a staff to run the dance studio. The business was very small with approximately 30 dancers, but the DuHadways were determined to make it work. After two years, they decided to sell off the gymnastics equipment due to high insurance premiums and lack of quality instructors in the area. Their focus would be on dance – just dance. That is what they do best and where they planned to focus all of their energy. DuHadway Dance continued in Ithaca on the third floor dance studio on Center St. In 1999, they expanded the Ithaca studio to include a large dance studio space that once housed the gym. Classes started being moved from Alma to Ithaca as the studio began to grow at a rapid rate.

DuHadway Dance Dimensions continued to grow and evolve into the new millennium. Spring 2005 brought the decision to consolidate the two studio locations into one large studio complex. The search was on for the ideal location. We found the perfect space in the rear of the Northtown Plaza in Alma. The large space we use for our studios today had been a fitness center. With the help of many studio families, renovations began in August of 2005 and we opened our doors in October 2005. Over the past 10 years we have added hip hop and tumbling programs, survived an economic depression, made a successful facility move, raised our two children and are proud to share an amazing staff and facility with our community and many guest artists each year. DuHadway Dance Dimensions has one of the finest studios in the State of Michigan.
