I make soap and bath products, all themed around the culture and history of the beautiful Isle of Man, an island I am very proud to call my home. I use no SLS or SLES in my products, and no parabens.
People often ask me how I got into soap making. The short answer is, I saw a friend’s fb pics when she tried it, and though “Ooh, that looks fun!” and had a go.
But, what keeps me making it, and what made me decide to get really serious about it, is using the soap itself. Previously, I used the cheapest liquid hand soap I could find at the supermarket, followed by gallons of hand cream, because my hands constantly felt so dry and rough. I never thought much about it, until I started using my own handmade soap. From the very first batch, I noticed that I was using less hand cream. A few batches further down the line, when I’d refined my recipe a little, I was barely using any.
Then, during my research, I found out that commercially produced soap undergoes an extra process, where the glycerine is extracted, and used to make – you guessed it – hand cream! That clinched it for me. No more shop-bought soap for me! And so, the journey began…
