What is CrossFit?

CrossFit is the principal strength and conditioning program for many police academies and tactical operations teams, military special operations units, champion martial artists, and hundreds of other elite and professional athletes worldwide. In recent years, CrossFit has begun to garner thousands and thousands of followers in the general public. Through it’s high intensity, constant variance and functional training methodologies, CrossFit has helped to create a fitter, healthier and happier community across the world.

The CrossFit programs’ specialty is not specializing. In other words, where other programs look to make you better in one area, such as running, swimming, weightlifting and so on, CrossFit works to help you excel in all areas of fitness. CrossFit defines fitness as proficiency in ten different areas:

Strength
Cardiovascular Endurance
Balance
Agility
Power
Accuracy
Coordination
Speed
Stamina
Flexibility

In order to increase an individuals’ fitness level, CrossFit utilizes a combination of weightlifting (power lifting, Olympic lifting), metabolic conditioning (running, rowing) and gymnastics (pull ups, pushups, other bodyweight movements). Through the use of these tools, CrossFit creates a constantly varied, high intensity and functional training program that can suit the needs of an eldery individual to an Olympic athlete.
