Myofunctional therapy is designed to help patients who struggle with a tongue thrust, TMJD, tongue tie, noxious oral habits (thumb sucking, nail biting etc), and abnormal breathing patterns. This is accomplished through teaching nasal breathing, lip seal, correct tongue position and a proper swallowing pattern. Myofunctional therapy exercises lead to a significant decrease in mouth breathing, facial muscular imbalance, digestive issues such as bloating or upset stomach, and many other symptoms associated with myofunctional disorders. If these disorders are left untreated, facial growth and development can be affected in children, and result in other more serious conditions later in life.
